  • One Book on Advanced CSS Mastery by Andy Budd to further your Web Design Skills - €30.99
  • Postage and packing from Swords to Wicklow - €2.40
  • Getting the book delivered through Irish postal system - Worthless!

So here’s the brand new book I ordered on Web Standards earlier in the month. It came from Amazon to Dublin in perfect condition and was then repackaged and sent to the new office in Wicklow. Granted, the envelope was porbably a little on the thin side but add what seems to have been a large puddle and several foorptints and you get the book pictured above. Also missing were several other letters from my bank, my phone company and some VAT or Tax reciepts.

Since the original envelope was soaked and missing most of it’s back, the package was delivered in aplastic envelope with an An Post apology and phone number on the reverse. We called Customer Care. They didn’t care!

Richard Hawley - Dublin

Richard Hawley

Just back from hearing the amazing Richard Hawley play in Whelans, Dublin. Normally I’d say ’seeing Richard Hawley’ but I couldn’t see a thing due to the venue being sold out. Beautiful music. Great band. Fun crowd.

The Marketing bit
The support act was brilliant. I’d love to buy some of the support acts music but probably never will. Who are you??? Please say your name before and after your performace and then we can listen even more.

The sales bit
It is true to say that we don’t buy from people we don’t like. When I heard that Richard had a new record out, 50% of my interest was because he was such a decent guy the first time I’d met him.

The personal bit
I had the pleasure of meeting Richard when I lived in Toronto for a short while a few years back.
I was in Toronto to meet David Houghton (graphic designer and percussionist for the Cowboy Junkies) but heard there was a Long Pigs gig on. Even though these guys were pretty big back in the UK, they were relatively small in Canada and i slipped backstage to say hello. Both the singer and Richard (who was guitarist at the time) were clearly exhausted from a stunning gig but both genuine gents and stopped to chat and say hello.

This is not a personal blog BUT…

I’m starting a new Personal category. “This Is Not a Personal Blog But….” will be useless trivia about my life as I endeavour to make it sound interesting and pretend I don’t actually spend 99% of my time sitting on front of my PC. Kinda like that saying - On the Internet, noone knows your’re a dog. I still find that funny. You see! That’s exactly why I need to get out more often.

Anywho. T.I.N.A.P.B.B part 1.

The tipping point of septic tank blogs!

A psychic once told me that if I wasn’t doing what I was doing right now (professionally that is I.E. Not drinking beer, eating microwave popcorn and updating my blog at 11pm), that I’d “be a gardener”.

I didn’t ask her to tell me this, she just did.
As a courtesy, I didn’t ask her to tell me what I was actually “doing now”. But to be fair, she may have been onto something. The name EdenWeb has more than a little to do with gardening and more than a little to do with an underdeveloped interest in sustainable living.

Having bought our first home in May 2005 it was time to push out the sustainable living vibe. It was going to be Solar-Power Central (it’s free energy, man! (Apart from the couple of grand it costs to install and maintain!)). My bookmarks are full of Domestic Wind Turbine web addresses and I have felt an urgent interest to make our new home greener and less taxing on melting icecaps that is guaranteed to make your eyes glaze over instead.
