UPS arrived about 2 minutes ago. I have brand new copy of Adobe Creative Suite 3 (Master Collection) sitting in front of me waiting to be installed. I can’t wait to start playing with this. Here’s a list of the included software in the Master Collection.

Uploading images

Michele over at Blacknight Hosting was asking why I FTP each individual image to my blog instead of using the file upload option.
Good question. No good asnwer. I just assumed I had to FTP from my web app. Oops!
Speaking of web applications and FTP, I am reviewing Microsoft’s new Expression Web application. Now might be a good idea to take Michele’s advice and upload a text .jpg of the product box.

If you can’t see a product box below then you will know I still haven’t gotten to grips with this yet!

Better software licensing

Buying legit software can be expensive but it’s worth it. Choosing which software vendor you’re going to run with can be even more expensive if the product or support turns out to be crap. I don’t always buy from the big guys either. It’s good to give the smaller independent teams a chance. You know; the guys for whom software is still a passion, the guys who are on their own support forums and will personally respond with a ‘thanks’ when you purchase an upgrade.

Yesterday I got a nice email from the developers of some software we use in our Virtual Tours services. Not only was a new edition available but it was a free upgrade (worth over 200 Euro) to us for being long-term customers. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better, I noticed they’d also extended their licensing to allow one user license to cover a desktop AND a laptop computer. Now thats why I sometimes run with the smaller guys – more innovation too! And I did use their software on both my desktop and laptop and it was annoying that I had to have two separate licenses. Hopefully when these guys become the industry standard in Virtual Tour software they won’t become any less innovative and shockingly generous with their product.

eMail newsletter – funny error

Software bugs can be serious. The error messages don’t have to be. Here’s a great one we came across earlier when using Campaign Monitor

We’re not sure exactly what the problem is, but details about the error are being emailed to our developers (and their boss, which means someone’s in trouble) as we speak.

This means that this problem will be fixed pretty quickly, so it might be a good idea to check back in a few hours…

Sparkle

Microsoft’s new graphic applications have just been made public in a series of community technology previews (CTPs).

The new Expression line is comprised of Expression Interactive Designer (formerly Sparkle) aimed at the GUI/User Interface crowd while Expression Graphic Designer (formerly Acrylic) is hoping for a share of the Illustration and Graphic Design market.

With the recent Macromedia and Adobe merger now well in place it looks like Microsofts latest entry into the graphics market is going to signal the mother of all marketing showdowns.
