The Host with the most…

Blacknight

Probably the most important professional relationship a Design company can have is the relationship with their Hosting provider(s). There is simply no other service you will rely on so much over the years to keep your business (and client’s) running smoothly. So when a friend’s web site disappeared recently and her Spanish hosting company were not being very responsive, we were all at a loss as to what to do. Her web designer has gone AWOL and was not returning calls or emails. All her documents were in Spain with her business and she had no PC or fax over here while on a short break.
We use two Irish Hosting companies in particular and they’re both very good. Today I want to single out Blacknight Solutions for going above and beyond the call of duty and helping out someone who is neither a client of mine or Blacknight Hosting.

I’ve always considered it vital to get instant support in person when the situation is critical and not be shoe-horned through a email ticketed system that is ignored for days or met with a lukewarm response. I consider it an amazing level of service when Michele personally took the time to communicate (in Spanish via phone and fax) with all parties involved to try and get a web site back online for a friend of the family.

Thanks Michele! :O)

Salesforce for Google AdWords

Salesforce have aquired the San Fran start-up whose product allows users to manage aspects of their Google AdWord campaigns via their AppExchange platform.
Kieden’s product seems to be very highly regarded by most SalesForce users but I’ve yet to be convinced that there are any huge benefits of this mash up.

I’m a big fan (and regular user) of both Salesforce and Google AdWords so if I’m missing something, please shout!

Yahoo climbs 1%

Recent article on from Maccentral.com. I wonder if the Yahoo climb has anything to do with their recent homepage redesign

Google’s Web sites continued to be the U.S.’s most-used search source in July, but lost 1 percent market share to Yahoo, comScore Networks said Sunday.

Google accounted for 43.7 percent of all U.S. searches, but declined in total use for the first time after 11 consecutive months of increases, comScore said. Yahoo’s sites increased to 28.8 percent, up 0.3 percent over June of this year, but still down by 1.7 percent compared to the same month last year. Microsoft and MSN sites stayed unchanged at 12.8 percent.

Yahoo and Google continued to dominate the browser-based toolbar search market, with over 95 percent of all toolbar searches between them, comScore said.

All searches totalled 6.3 billion for July, down two percent from June and reflecting seasonal change, comScore said.

Corporate branding - be consistent

Have you ever taken 10 minutes to fill out your own web site forms, seen how long it took to get a response, checked if the automated response had the correct sales details and telephone number?

Let me explain.

New design portfolio

While we’re in the process of redesigning our site and bringing it up to date with our new Design and Marketing services, we’ve added some recent design work to our temp holding page.

Visit www.edenweb.ie and click on the Portfolio link on the top right of the page. Believe it or not, in the last 5/6 years we’ve never had our own design work on our site.

Anyway, please take a look and I’d love to hear your feedback.

eMail newsletter - funny error

Software bugs can be serious. The error messages don’t have to be. Here’s a great one we came across earlier when using Campaign Monitor

We’re not sure exactly what the problem is, but details about the error are being emailed to our developers (and their boss, which means someone’s in trouble) as we speak.

This means that this problem will be fixed pretty quickly, so it might be a good idea to check back in a few hours…
