Google Trends

Knowing which terms and key-words are most relevant to your business web site can give you a solid foundation from which to base any search engine optimization projects as they can reveal how people are finding your site or indeed, finding your competitors sites.
There are plenty of online tools already available to help you with this including offerings from Overture (Now Yahoo) Google and other smaller independents.

Today Google Trends was launched and here’s why you should be interested if you own or market a business web site.

With Google Trends, you can compare the world’s interest in your favorite topics. Enter up to five topics and see how often they’ve been searched for on Google over time. Google Trends also displays how frequently your topics have appeared in Google News stories, and which geographic regions have searched for them most often.

Try it yourself. You can enter up to 5 phrases or key words and see how active they’ve been over the past 24 months (on Google of course).

For example. If I ran a Hotel in Dublin I could very easily find out wether I should be targetting the phrase

Dublin Hotel OR Hotel in Dublin OR Dublin Accomodation across my META Tags on my hotel web site

Richard Hawley - Dublin

Richard Hawley

Just back from hearing the amazing Richard Hawley play in Whelans, Dublin. Normally I’d say ’seeing Richard Hawley’ but I couldn’t see a thing due to the venue being sold out. Beautiful music. Great band. Fun crowd.

The Marketing bit
The support act was brilliant. I’d love to buy some of the support acts music but probably never will. Who are you??? Please say your name before and after your performace and then we can listen even more.

The sales bit
It is true to say that we don’t buy from people we don’t like. When I heard that Richard had a new record out, 50% of my interest was because he was such a decent guy the first time I’d met him.

The personal bit
I had the pleasure of meeting Richard when I lived in Toronto for a short while a few years back.
I was in Toronto to meet David Houghton (graphic designer and percussionist for the Cowboy Junkies) but heard there was a Long Pigs gig on. Even though these guys were pretty big back in the UK, they were relatively small in Canada and i slipped backstage to say hello. Both the singer and Richard (who was guitarist at the time) were clearly exhausted from a stunning gig but both genuine gents and stopped to chat and say hello.
